Happy Canada Day!
Tue Jul 01, 2008 at 07:33:29 AM PDT
Today is Canada Day! The big day of national celebration for the peoples of Canada. Notice I said peoples of Canada because Canada has lots of different groups of people that make it up and most of those groups are the same ones that make us, the United States. So have good day knowing that you friends and cousins to the North are having a big day of hot dogs, beer and fireworks.
So please sent your regards to all the Kossacks in Canada and wish us a Happy Canada Day.

Republicans disgusted with nation's morals
Fri Jun 13, 2008 at 12:39:51 PM PDT
Well, golly! Ya think that Republicans are soured on the values of the United States? It is amazing how blind these people are when it comes to their belief that the morals of the nation are going down. When the truth is that Republicans have repeatedly lied to their "base" about what Republican values are and how to impose them on others in the nation. From lying to recruit young people into fight in the war, lying to the nation about everything, withholding donated supplies to Katrina victims, teaching abstinence to deprive kids of real information, take money from public chool to spend it on christian schools, and charter schools, not the best armour for our troups, not enough flu vaccines, to the constant parade of Republicans admitting to using prositutes, molesting young men and not to mention the foot tapping stuff and Gannon etc, Republicans have been at the forefront of committing bad behavior after bad behavior. And yet.......
Impeach George W. Bush
Tue Jun 10, 2008 at 03:16:39 PM PDT
I agree with Representative Denis Kucinich (http://kucinich.house.gov/) and other people who have diaried this point. I think that President Bush should be impeached for his many actions that have been harmful to the people of the United States.
I also think that it is time for every blogger that posts on his or her blog to post the same thing......
Impeach George W. Bush.
I think KOS should write that and every Kossack that has not yet written a diary yet today. There is a media black out or so it seems, but when I google impeach and the word Dennis Kucinich you don't get a lot of recent stuff so I think similar to a google bomb that we should ALL POST AT LEAST ONE DIARY ABOUT IMPEACHING GEORGE W. BUSH in the title and post them in comments on various news sites
and get the impeach meme clicked on at news sites and and so on......
Now go do it!
i love KOS's teeth diary!!!
Thu Jun 05, 2008 at 12:47:15 PM PDT
Yeah!
Get real people. Lighten up. People have been working on both the Hillary campaign and the Obama campaign for so long all people are looking for is some offence. So John McCain's teeth are yellow. Come on. The man is a WEALTHY MAN!!!!!!
So Kos make fun of his teeth in that ad. Great! It is about freaking time we had a laugh at his expense. If it had been about Hillary, people here would have been jumping on board and toasting with champaign. Kos is right!
Why are they?
Doesn't he have people competent enough to use some white out and then take a picture. Come on and this is all over the rec list with outrage????
Ha ha that is even funnier!
lose their nerve
Wed May 28, 2008 at 09:45:17 AM PDT
Bush talking right now to the military. Keeps repeating the mantra of losing our nerve. Which in other words means those people wanting to end the war are cowards.
Bu the coward is he. He is the one who went awol, he is the one who have to tell lies to lead the country to war and describes the countries as "emerging democracies" and admited how newly liberated people were not ready to govern thier own land. But makes no mention about how being there cultivates hostilities against Americans.
So there he stands lying to the young cadets on the day that his own former press secretary rats him out. "This experience will promote your experience" So going to war is good for your military career.
Congress better supply your needs, etc. When Rummy wouldn't allow better body armor or better vehicles.
The man has no shame.
The daily Kos buys a Shelter box for Burma!
Mon May 12, 2008 at 05:25:59 AM PDT
Yesterday after posting a comment on another diary about Burma ......
Can't we concentrate on Myanmar and forget about superdelegates for one day?
by proud2Bliberal
I posted a link to a Rotary supported program that puts together shelterboxes for disaster relief.
http://www.shelterboxusa.org/
As a frequent commenter but not a writer of diaries, I thought, "well hell I'll just thow one up and see if I can get a few dollars."
My diary written in hast was lame with some broken links and some peole thought it was a scam. But of course my fellow Kossacks checked it out and recomended it! I don't know how to post pictures and stuff but the members of the Daily Kos pictched in and raised 595 dolars towards a 1,000 box!......
Burma -help now! half a Shelter Box need a bit more!!!!!!!
Sun May 11, 2008 at 12:53:23 PM PDT

RotaryInternational is on the ground and running with shelter and help for the displaces thousands of the Burmese people.
Please consider donating to the Shelter box program what ever you can and see if we can''t put together enough money toward one box.
Here is the link to shelter boxes usa
http://www.shelterboxusa.org/

As a Rotarian my huband and I donate annually to Rotary International. Rotary is an old and time honored organization building good will around the world including Republican as well as Democratic businessleaders in almost every community in America.
By donating to this link you are not donating to Rotary but donating directly to the shelter box project.

Well, and there it is. Billions spent and the data show
no significance
between those participating in the 6 billion dollar program at the heart of NCLB. All this money, time and effort going into the pocket of Bush designed Bush friendly folks, They have let down low income children. For years now teachers and administrators have been battling the money changers at the school house door of poor children. Because poor children are the least powerful at protecting they meager resources, their school, they now have had to pay for that by spending years with their head down and bubbling circles while more properous kiddies played in the sun.
Found this at raw story...

The slightly smaller elephant in the room
Tue Mar 18, 2008 at 09:02:30 AM PDT
Well I will start right away and say I am a supporter of Hillary, but coming from a non union state, I didn't go on "strike" because that is not what I am about.
There has been great use of a Spanish phrase, " si se puede", however the one that unfortunately rings most true for my folks is "Nos Aguantamos". Which means we will endure. Not a really great slogan but one that speaks the resilience of the Mexican American of the Southwest.
Mexican Americans have been in the Southwest for hundreds of years. But in a sense we have been ignored like we are not there.
Here is one example of that:
Library of Congress American memory:
http://memory.loc.gov/...
Do you see there? There is no link to Mexican American or Hispanic or Latino on the page. One for African American history but not one for us. In order to find anything about "us" one must click and hunt through other links.
had to work at finding this link

No Justice no peace!
Fri Nov 16, 2007 at 09:15:16 AM PDT
Have CNN on while walking on the treadmill and watching the amazing story of so many people in D.C. now.
Al Sharpton chanting No Justice No peace along with many other folks.
I find it really amazing. However I am curious why there is no diary on it. So I will use one of my meagerly written dairies a a place for Kossacks to weigh in on the demonstrations.
It looks pretty exciting to me.

Who the hell am i?
Sat Sep 22, 2007 at 12:51:47 PM PDT
This diary is a self reflective one as diaries traditionally once were. But I think it is kinda fun to have other people read it so here goes.
Yesterday while talking to a woman I have seen once a year while she delivered wood for the fireplace. She asked me a question that I often get in various forms. She asked, "Are you Argentinean?" I laughed and said,"No, I am Mexican American from Texas." Her response was, "oh yes Mexican." We continued chatting. Then later on in the day, a butcher at the Safeway asked me right out, "Are you Hispanic?" I said," yes, I am from Texas." He had a Spanish accent so I spoke to him in Spanish. But these responses were based on each one saw when they looked at me. I am short, brown and had big brown eyes. However, there is something about me that people just can't put their finger on.

Kozol "weighs in"
Sun Sep 16, 2007 at 06:43:30 AM PDT
This diary will be short as many of my diaries are. But I saw this at the Huffington Post and thought it important enough to bring attention to it. Anybody who read my comments know that I am very much opposed to NCLB and that I feel that it has enormous impact and damge to children especialy the poor.
Jonathon Kozol is a hero of mine because he has spent a lifetime shining a spotlight on the children of people of lesser means in America. I see that teacherken has already written a diary today so I will step in to highlight this important column by an important voice for children in America.
go and read it.

People can say it's not about race
Sat Sep 08, 2007 at 07:37:18 AM PDT
When that is all it is about.
Before all you labor leaning people jump all over me, let me say that as a teacher I have belonged to a union and am pro labor. Even though many folks don't think that being prepared as a teacher has value. In many situations people can walk off the street with a degree in anything and be employed as a teacher on a temporary basis for some time as long as the schools can't locate anyone. So the argument of stealing jobs by other workers happens to teachers, too. Emergency certification, etc.
I have never supported illegal immigration. It is an anathema to me as a Mexican American that poor folks come in paying a huge amount of money to go through risky travel to get here. We went to school with the children of these pobres. We didn't have much as kids, but the other kids had no shoes and we had a house, a back yard and a big plastic swimming pool that my parents would put up in the summer.
But after reading the comments made by Ed Martin about Mexicans gave me a chill.

Rove leaves to avoid being fired for Hatch act violations
Mon Aug 20, 2007 at 07:45:49 AM PDT
Or maybe not.
Last Sunday, the presidential advisor Karl Rove appeared on various sunday news talk shows. During these programs, Mr. Rove answered some questions, avoided others and put out his face saving spin on his successes. Well at least that is what he was trying to do, while pundits let him go on weaving a tale about his role in outing a CIA agent who was involved in real intelligence collection on potential weapons of mass distruction.
But I agree with Bill Press
